What permissions does the extension need and why?

The KnowledgeOS extension asks for the minimum amount of permissions it needs to be able to work for you. Here is a brief overview what is required, why it is required, and how your privacy is respected.

Read & edit your tabs

This is necessary to help you track your tabs over time. KnowledgeOS automatically keeps a local (stored on your device) record of all your recent windows and the tabs you last had open in them. Similarly KnowledgeOS keeps track of the tabs you last had open in your various Contexts. You can choose to to sync your tabs across browsers and devices with Knowledge Sync, which will create and maintain a copy of the tabs record on Comake Cloud.

Read & edit your browsing history

KnowledgeOS uses your browsing history as a key contributor to the living digital memory that it automatically builds for you. This means automatically (and locally) classifying, organizing, and linking all of the browsing history in your browser. In order to do so, KnowledgeOS needs to be able to access your browsing history. KnowledgeOS also generates placeholder URLs to help you quickly load windows and keep local resource usage to a minimum. In order to keep your browser clean and prevent your browsing history from getting overloaded with placeholder URLs, KnowledgeOS also needs edit access. It does not change your history in any other way. Similar to tabs, your browsing history is only stored on your device. In the future, you will be able to sync it across devices using Knowledge Sync.
